Could Cell Phone Cause Cancer?

U.S. scientists found that if people make a call for 50 minutes close to the ear by using a mobile phone, the brain cells’ activities which are closest to the cell phone antenna will change.

Since the eighties of last century, there are about 5 billion mobile phones are used by people in the worldwide. Some studies showed that mobile phone will increase the risk of brain cancer for the users, but a survey conducted by the World Health Organization does not draw such a conclusion.

According to the United States National Institutes of Health Group report shows that they studied the brain’s different reactions of 47 people when the phone open and closed throughout all the year of 2009. The researchers put the phone in the left ear and right ear first, and then going two positron emission tomography (PET-scan)s. At the first scan, the phone on the right ear opens for 50 minutes, but the volume is muted. When the second scan, the two phones are all off.

The research report said, when the phone turned on, the brain’s cerebral glucose metabolic rate increased by 7% where is at the nearest mobile phone antenna. But the side for cell phone off does not have this phenomenon. Increase in glucose metabolism is a sign of the activity of brain cells.

The report said that the result shows that human brain could react for the radiofrequency modulated electromagnetic field. But the report also pointed out that this is still a pending further research for whether mobile phone electromagnetic fields have long-term harmful consequences.
