Lovely Mooncake Not for eat
See the picture? Lovely mooncakes,isn’t it? Absolutely,they make me mouthwatering despite of the fact that? I don’t have sweet teeth,furthermore,mooncakes are always too sweet,they seem to be barely made out of sugar. So I’ll have it a bite and dump it away,hmm,quite a waste,probably I should save the rest of it and have other separate bites from time to time,haha!
Mid-autumn Day is around the corner,this is one of our Chinese Traditional Festivals comes only after the Spring Festival,and mooncakes are not just ordinary cakes but it’s loaded with emotion and culture. However,things comes much further than this.Like any other festivals in China,Mid-autumn Day provides an excellent opportunity for business men to roll in money.They began their commercial plan far far earlier than the big day,thus Mid-autumn Day is well turned into “Mid-autumn Month”,the festival lasts much longer than just one day.By the way,other festivals are no better,such as Valentine’s Day,Mother’s Day,Father’s day,Double Ninth Day,Children’s Day,Tomb Sweeping Day,Dragon Boat Festival,not to mention the Spring Festival,just to name a few.Skipping the Spring Festival,all others are not only one special day,they lasts longer than one day due to nowaday’s commercial atmosphere.
The becoming Mid-autumn Day,well,I’d rather call it Mid-autumn Festival brings up a huge commercial war between various business men, many people find less meaningful have the day, for gold bar cake takes place of mooncake and it’s hard to bite and will be had at the price of all your teeth,haha! The deformed mooncakes come with so many extravagant packagings and various kinds of shapes,some of which don’t looks like moon at all, say,rabbits,boots,boats,cats,cows,so much so many! Oh,crap! We advocate to be creative and innovative,but how can people be creative to this extent? They go to far!
Another nauseous phenomena is that mooncakes become a symbol of so-called “elegant gift” to be sent out with venal items,or the venal items are inlaid in mooncakes.when bribees take their bite, credit card,bullion,jade,jewelry,ivory or other precious things will unveil themselves. Mid-autumn Day was a time people get together to celebrate their reunion and now creates a good occasion for those who want to bribe or be bribed.
Commercial atmosphere permeates every corner of our modern life irresistibly,business men peel of the sheel of our traditional festivals and pay a blind eye to it’s essence. They say: convention,culture,history,affection and the likes get the hell out of me! I only need big rows of money,money!
How’s it packing and what’s the price? We seem care much about mooncakes’ package and price. They are exquisitely packaged and priced highly. One of the reason for their high price may be the one with Chinese imperfect market economy.If given sufficient competition plus government’s macro-control, the prices will become reasonable. Our government should play their role to prevent the market from going deviously thus our commoners could spend their holidays healthier and taste the the happiness our traditional holidays bring about.
We don’t need to pay for the groundless stunt and extravagant packaging,we only need to pay for what the festival means and our affection for our family.
